14. Chris Clearfield and AndrĂĄs Tilcsik: Why Our Systems Fail and What We Can Do About It
Co-authors Chris Clearfield and András Tilcsik will talk about how "the increasing complexity of our systems creates conditions ripe for failure, and why our brains and teams can’t keep up." Their book Why Our Systems Fail and What We Can Do About It "merges cutting-edge social science with riveting stories" that explore everything from the Volkswagen scandal to the Oscars.

15. Civic Cocktail: News From the Hill + A Dialogue About Guns
Congressperson Pramila Jayapal of the seventh district will talk legislation with host Joni Balter, and then a panel of Senator Phil Fortunato, Public Health director for King County Patty Hayes, Alliance for Gun Responsibility's Renée Hopkins, and Tahoma High School's Rhiannon Rasaretnam will talk about gun reform.

16. On the Eve of the White Arrival
David Buerge, author of Chief Seattle and the Town that Took his Name, will join book editor Mary Ann Gwinn for a discussion of local native lands before white colonization.

29. TBASA's Lo-Fi All Stars #100
Allegedly Seattle's longest running acoustic music showcase, All Stars is a night of lo-fi musicians hand-picked by Tbasa of Substation, featuring Wes Sp8, Jenna Fields, 5J Barrow, Crystal Fuzz, Lucas Tayne, and Deb Montgomery. This will be their last showcase ever, so get there early for every set.

30. Jennifer Palmieri: Dear Madam President
Jennifer Palmieri is the former director of communications for the Clinton campaign, has written a book about "how, despite all the gains women have made, we still struggle to envision a woman as president" in the form of an open letter to the eventual first woman president of the US. 31. Lisa Genova: Every Note Played
Lisa Genova, author of Still Alice, will share her latest novel, Every Note Played, about a concert pianist whose right arm becomes paralyzed after he's diagnosed with ALS.

32. Natural History and Nature’s Future with Daniel Mathews
Daniel Mathews will start with highlights from his 2017 book, Natural History of the PNW Mountains before giving a preview of his current work-in-progress, Trees In Trouble: Western Landscapes At Risk. In it, he addresses climate change, megafires, insect epidemics, forest-protection policies, and more.

Magic the Gathering players will gather to compete for impressive prizes at this event celebrating the 25th birthday of the popular trading card game. The Grand Prix will mostly appeal to MTG players, for whom the main events will be standard (Sat–Sun) and legacy (Fri–Sat) tournaments, in addition to dozens of side events, ranging from Modern to Commander, and from Sealed Two-Headed Giant to opportunities to challenge professional players. But it's open to anyone, and will also feature exhibitions featuring MTG card art, cosplayers, and vendors selling merch.

Who knew vegan wine was a thing? Some winemakers use animal products like gelatin, caseins, and bone marrow as fining agents, making their wines not vegan. This four-course dinner hosted by guest speaker Stewart Rose, Vice President of the Vegetarians of Washington and Luke Wohlers from Walden Selections will feature vegan wine pairings as well as intriguing plant-based takes on dishes like poke and loco moco.

43. Kalimba: The Spirit of Earth, Wind & Fire
I like my tribute groups ambitious, damn it. Tackling the big-band funk and celestial soul of Earth, Wind & Fire involves serious arranging, playing, dancing, and falsetto-singing skills. The nine-member-strong local ensemble Kalimba, the Spirit of Earth, Wind & Fire definitely have EW&F’s many hits down to a science, but what I really want to know is this: Do they play the amazing early stuff that didn’t tear up the radio, like “Bad Tune,” “Energy,” “Drum Song,” “Zanzibar,” or anything off the Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song soundtrack? I'm not finding anything online to suggest they are. Those were the real kalimba-tastic works, you know. DAVE SEGAL

44. Things That Break
This group concert will combine music, stop-motion animation, storytelling, visual art, and theatrical performances around the theme of “breaking." The lineup is made up solely of local women, including composer Jessi Harvey, animator Becky Joy Aitken, storyteller and photographer Sonya Harris, and theater performer Aimee Hong.

45. WAVES Presents: Forgotten Worlds
The organizers of this event will aim to channel ancient sprits with aerial performances, a giant projection stage, a silent disco, and many strobe lights.

Michael Place will direct this play examining the fate of a nation that will march off to war following the abduction of Queen Helen.

47. Intiman's ShowtheLove Silent Disco Cast Party
Celebrate the end of the #SHOWTHELOVE fundraising campaign (whose goal it was to raise $60,000 in 15 days to support the theater's "wild, wicked, and woke" programming) with an open bar, live DJ sets by Markeith Wiley, Erin Bednarz, and Josh Lind, and local art.

48. Where the Heart Is
The Middle East-focused Kerning Cultures will throw another listening party for their latest podcast episode, which concerns a Syrian expat living in Dubai and grappling with the idea of home. They'll provide snacks and drinks.

49. Panalipdan! Defend!
The International Solidarity Mission will report back from the Philippines, where President Duterte's so-called drug war has resulted in the extrajudicial killings of as many as 14,000 Filipinos. Pam Tau Lee, chair of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines-US, and Jill Mangaliman of the Filipino women's rights organization GABRIELA Seattle will give talks.

50. Duane Goad
Stand-up comic Duane Goad has performed at Funny or Die's Oddball Comedy Festival, the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, Bumbershoot, and the Vancouver Comedy Festival. He was also a finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition. He'll try and make you laugh in two sets of live back-to-back sets.

51. Watergate: A Comedy Show
This sketch comedy show will take the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters' Watergate office and make it funny.

52. She is Fierce: Criminal
This storytelling event will feature people who identify as women sharing personal stories through performance, dance, theater, music, and/or visual art. Among others, the lineup features talented performers like Maggie McMuffin, Grace Penzell, Jasmine Joshua, and Bakima Ssebanakita, plus special guests comedian Alyssa Yeoman and oddball Tootsie Spangles.

Cambodian Americans will commemorate the victims of the genocidal Pol Pot regime while acknowledging the survivors who have "held on to their identity through the trauma of war and resettlement through art."

56. Artrageous!
If you're into art creative mashups, see a troupe of artists, musicians, singers, and dancers pay tribute to a variety of art forms, pop icons, and musical genres culminating in a gallery of finished paintings. Be prepared for plenty of audience participation.

57. Race to the Moon by Forest of Bloom
Forest of Boom, a theme camp at Washington's Burning Man event Critical Northwest, will host its annual fundraiser. Expect live DJs (including Galactican, Cosmic Horizon, David Cole, Green Piece, and Diem Martinez), art, and "fire."

Pierce County is fertile ground for the yellow perennial flowers, who have had their own festival in the area since 1934. The highlight of the event is its grand parade on April 7, where the festival's royal court (made up of 23 "princesses" from Pierce County high schools) sail down the street on daffodil-covered floats.
