If moon sighted on Thursday, Eid holiday will be set for Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs has said that the moon sighting for the month of Dhul Hijah will be possible if the skies are clear on Thursday, August 1.

That will mean that Friday, August 2nd will be the first day of Dhul Hijah, and Eid Al Adha will then be on Sunday, August 11.

The Ministry issued a report on the moonsighting for the month of Dhul Hijah 1440 AH which said that: "On Thursday, 29 Dhul Qa'da 1440 AH corresponding to August 1, 2019, in the city of Muscat: The moon will be in the pairing phase on Thursday at 7:15 local time. The moon will descend at 7:17 pm and the sun sets at 6:55 pm."

"Therefore, in the case of clear skies in the sultanate, the sighting of the moon for the month of Dhul Hijah AH 1440 will be by astrological binoculars and difficult by the naked eye," the ministry added.

According to the lunar calendar, Eid will fall on the 10th day of Dhul Hijja.

However, if the month of Dhul Hijja starts on Saturday, August 3, then Eid will be on Monday, August 12.
