Celebrity psychic medium John Edward on his way to "read" for Canberra

Do you have a memory from so early in your childhood that family members flat out refuse to believe you?

"There's no way you could remember that," they say.

Celebrity psychic medium John Edward says once you decide to explore your psychic ability, there's no turning back.

Celebrity psychic medium John Edward says once you decide to explore your psychic ability, there's no turning back.

Celebrity psychic medium John Edward believes you. His earliest memory is of his first birthday, sitting on an aunt's lap and wondering why his grandmother wasn't at the party.

"I remember the energy of the party, the tension of knowing my mum and my grandma were fighting," he recalls.

"I realise now that it was one of my first psychic moments, of just being able to tap in to the energy of a situation."

The former host of television's Crossing Over and author of 13 novels on spirituality has made millions communicating with the dead: speaking to spirits who have "crossed over" and delivering messages to their loved ones still here on earth.

Whether they're warnings, pieces of advice or simple "I'm okays", Edward always has the receivers of messages from "the other side" in a state of shock or in tears. He reads in intimate settings for private clients at home in New York City, but he also reads in front of tens of thousands of fans at stadiums around the world.

He'll read for about 1000 Canberrans at a live event at QT Hotel in November.

Edward says he was told at his own psychic reading at age 15 that he had "a psychic ability that would be my life's work". He laughs when I ask if he spends his days actively fighting voices and messages from "the other side".

"People think because we have this ability we must be constantly walking around receiving, but it's like a light torch, you turn it on when you need to and turn it off when you don't," he says.

"Some people in the field perpetuate that because it seems cool and sexy but the bottom line is - when I'm not reading, I'm not reading.

"When I was doing Crossing Over they were like 'we want to do a day in the life of John Edward' and I was like 'no, it's really not that exciting'.

"I get up, I go to the gym, I go to the office, I see my clients - I live a really normal life, it's kind of boring."

If you do have very early memories and think you may have a little bit of psychic ability, Edward wants you to "pick a psychic tool".

"It's like saying you're feeling like you're an artist and you want to know what exactly to do to enhance your artistic ability," he says.

"So either pick astrology, or learn tarot or numerology as your instrument that you can funnel your intuition to."

Psychic medium John Edward will conduct a live reading at QT Hotel, Saturday November 18, 1pm. Tickets and further information from Ticketmaster.
