Generally considered to be one of the most auspicious occasions for beginning new ventures and relations, purchasing new items, including gold, vehicles and real estate, there’s no place for Hindu weddings this time around on Akshaya Tritiya. Many who were considering to get married on the day without zeroing in on a particular date were disappointed.
Apparently, planet Venus (shukra) is not in a favourable position from May 2 and thus families had to look for alternative dates. A case in point is 28-year-old Jay Mehta who then had to prepone his wedding to May 1.
But this occurrence, which has taken place after some 100 years, has not really affected many. Pandit Manish Bharadwaj, says, “While this is a significant consideration , not many seem to be affected by it while getting married. “It is true that there are fewer muhurats, and the number of people getting married on the day is not a lot, but it is still happening. In fact, I’m going to be in Lucknow on that day for a marriage,” he says.
Given that one doesn’t need to think twice to get married on this day since it is one of the saade teen muhurats as per the Hindu astrology, there’s not much resistance among people. Wedding planner Candice Pereira confirms the same and says, “Overall, there are not too many weddings happening this year but people are still going ahead with it.” Similarly, banquet halls and grounds may have had lesser enquiries but functions are still taking place there.
While this, Bhavika Rastogi has found an easier way out. She says, “I’m having a court marriage followed by a cocktail party-cum-reception for my close family and friends
